Stage Elevators |
|
(Tokyo Fine Arts Theater) |
The "trap" is an opening in part of the stage floor, which enables performers and props to be brought onto and off of the stage in a vertical direction. The raising and lowering mechanism incorporated in the trap is called the stage elevator. Stage elevators are categorized by size, into large, medium and small. These elevators are used for efficient scenery shifting, more effective performances and to create multi-level stages. Many performance halls today are equipping the entirety of their acting areas (the stage floor visible from the audience) with continuous stage elevators. This provides a tremendous amount of flexibility when shifting scenes. |

Elevator Safety |
| Like all stage equipment, stage elevators must work reliably during performances. In addition, a variety of safety devices are incorporated in these elevators, to ensure the safety of people riding on them and people near the trap (on-stage) and the understage boarding area. |
